VUKA MUNTU OMUSHA

Vuka ubone muntu omusha.
Vuka wenze muntu omusha.
Vuka kuzwakale muntu omusha.
Vuka ubonakale muntu omusha.

Impilo yakho iphethwe nguwe,
Ikusasa lakho lisezandleni zakho.
Impumelelo yakho yakhiwa nguwe.
Injabulo yakho yakhiwa nguwe.
Ithemba lakho libe kuMdali.

Vuka muntu omusha.
Vuka uyibambe.
Vuka uphokophele.
Ikusasa lakho alingafani nezolo lakho.

Wena uyithemba lesizwe.
Wena uyikusasa lesizwe.
Wena unguvela bahleke.
Wena uyenza kwenzeke.
Ungakwenza kulunge.

Amathuba ayimbaba,
Amakhono angangolwandle,
Imfundo ngeyamahhala,
Amabhizinisi ayavulwa.
Vuka muntu omusha.

Wena awufani nokhokho,
Wena awufani nomndeni wakho.
Amalungelo angakuwe,
Phuma phambili qhawe.
Vuka muntu omusha.

THEMBA LAMI

Themba lami lokugcina,
Wena ngikubiza ithemba lami lokugqina,
Ngoba elokuqala lafika langishiya.
Ubuhlungu sebuphelile ingqondo ayisoze yakhohlwa.
Kepha inhliziyo seyixolile.

Bethanda bengathandi noma umhlaba ungangenza inhlekisa,
Kepha mina ngizobambela kuwe kuhle kohlanya.
Ngizonamathela kuwe kuhle kweshungami inamathele ekhanda.

Angikuthandi njengami,
kepha ngikuthanda njengawe uthanda mina.
Uma ngishiya wena kuyobe angiyazi into engiyenzayo,
Kuyomele ngithule ngingakhulumi lutho ngothando,
Ngoba wena uwuthando uqobo.
Sthandwa somphefumulo wami uma ngishiya wena kuyobe ngishiya impilo yami uqobo.

Themba lami ngithathe ungithande,
Ngimi phambi kwakho ngiyababaza,
Hha ngomlomo,
Kepha ngenhliziyo nangothando.

SAPHELA ISIZWE

Saphela isizwe sakithi,
Saphela isizwe esimnyama,
Sapkela isizwe sako Madiba,
Saphela isizwe sakwethu.

Bashabalala abahlobo bethu,
Zahamba izithandwa zethu,
Saphela isizwe sakwethu.

Ingabe yini le ebulala isizwe kangaka,
Ingabe yini le egwinya isizwe sakwethu,
Bahamba abadumile,
Bahamba abangaziwa,
Saphela isizwe sakwethu.

Bahamba abakholwayo,
Bahamba abangakholwa,
Ingabe mhlaba wenziwani,
Usuqeda isizwe kangaka,
Sesiyaphela isizwe sakwethu.

Myesha Jenkins – Tribute

Botsotso would like to pay homage to Myesha Jenkins, the poet and promoter of poetry who died on Saturday, 05 September 2020. Myesha was a founder member of Feelah Sistah, the all-woman poetry group that in its time made such an impact. Thereafter, she was indefatigable in organising and strengthening poetry platforms on radio and for live performance/readings. Myesha’s work was included in two Botsotso productions – the anthology Isis X and the recording Roots and Branches. Her spirit as a politically conscious, jazz-loving artist lives on and is well expressed in her seminal poem Autobiography which was included in both these projects.
