Tlou Setumu is a poet, novelist and writer of non-fiction. He is deeply involved in exploring the language and history of the Pedi and is well known in Limpopo, being the provincial director of the South African Heritage agency. His championing of the vernacular is a statement that indigenous languages should not be marginalized or neglected despite the supremacy of English. His examination of Pedi culture is interspersed with deeply personal poems that are universal in nature.
