(A poem for Bra Don Mattera)
by Lehlohonolo Shale
The first was at your home
When Comrade met Comrade
In a never-ending liberation view
Like when sea met sand
Now at Westpark
Whilst your last wishes are met
We take an overview
And with the midnight blues
Shall sing your Azanian love song
Till the land is no more estranged
For memory is our weapon
To help you rise, O Beloved
Bra Don we wept for you
First at your home
Where Comrade met Comrade
In a never-ending liberation move
Frank talk you did
Like the youngsters you called
Clad in football petals
Not represented by the Rainbow
But more by the willow
Who stands tall
First at your home
Now last at Wespark
