Self-funded Publishing
Given the dramatic drop in funding for literature and other art forms by the National Department of Sports, Arts and Culture and its continuing waste of resources through corruption and mismanagement, together with the chronic under-performance of the National Lottery Trust Fund, writers have been finding it more and more difficult to publish ‘non-commercial’ work, particularly with respect to poetry and short fiction.
In order to still provide publishing opportunities for work that is original, well-written and relevant to our emerging democratic culture, Botsotso is now open to publishing such work as funded by writers/poets themselves.
We have developed a R25,000 package (for poetry/short fiction collections or novellas, memoirs and other types of non-fiction of up to 150 pages) which includes editing, layout and design, printing (300 copies) and media to publicise the work and organise readings; a package of R35,000 covers work of 150 to 350 pages.
