“What possessed you to marry the black woman?” scolded his sister.

His older brother also jumped in: “Do you really want your children to be half-breeds?
Our father would have turned in his grave if he should know!”

“Look”, said his sister and pushed her finger in his face, “either you leave her
or we want nothing to do with you anymore!”

Anguished, he went into the veld to meditate and pray.

The next day Miriam and Aaron’s skins were whitened with leprosy.

Moses had to think: His sense for irony is always flawless.
