THORNS

by Monica Kagan

Thorns

Extending my fingers,
thorns prickle

I am a supplicant
in the soft petals of desire
for the intimate other

Skin and salt,
I explore
Your soul’s orbit,
I trace

Discord detonates
Thickets like daggers
penetrate shriveled leaves

Intertwined
I cannot find
Myself
