Two poems by Amy Sibiya

Unconscious conscience

I take it ill that I misunderstood
Laughed childishly
Cried silently
Questioned unconsciously
Smiled generously
Shared kindly
I took pleasure in being trapped
Hopeless
Crippled.

Was it all an awakening of the neglected conscience?

Remind me

The cheap wine stains
Red lipstick remains
Weave strands
A few rands.

I forgot your name
Your funny English name
I remember your bright brown eyes
Eyes that tell no lies.

Why do you live in a suitcase?
Why do you pack all of your emotions?
It is worn out – your face
It’s showing all your commotions.

Gorgeous girl
Graceful girl
Smart girl
Hurting girl.
