Two Poems by Ndaba Sibanda

The Bigness Of The Heart

I was too thirsty to talk
and you gave me a dewdrop
of water and said now sing.

I was hungry to the point
of disintegrating into many parts
and you gave an iota of popcorn.

I was too frail to stand on my legs
and you gave me the thinnest and most pliant
walking stick ever known to man.

Thank you for the sufficiency of the thought
that is a smidgeon in front of a naked eye
but could be the bigness of the heart.

Not Here

I overheard a security guard tell one of the Yeoville residents,
“Friend, please dissuade your countryman from beating up his wife.
This is South Africa. If his wife reports him to the police, finish!”
