ABOUT THE COLLECTION

volcanoed/ηφαιστειωθής is a poetry collection that attempts to capture a contemplative journey undertaken through the simultaneous use of English and Greek languages. Each double poem is not a translation of one another but rather the product of a process in which one version informs the other, and the two poems intertwine and evolve alongside each other. The collection weaves together themes of grief and loss, experiences of otherness, and the exploration of place and location, including the complexities of migration and self-exile.

ABOUT THE POET

Petros Isaakidis was born in Greece. He studied medicine and worked as an epidemiologist and researcher in Kenya, Cambodia, India, South Africa and elsewhere. He completed with distinction an MA in Creative Writing at the University of Cape Town. He has published extensively in scientific journals, while his poems and prose, in both English and Greek, have appeared in literary magazines including Anti-Heroin Chic, Ariel Chart, Stachtes, Chartis, Thraca, Planodion – Bonsai Stories, The New Contrast, Eunoia Review, New Coin, Stanzas and others. His bilingual poetry collection volcanoed/ηφαιστειωθής was shortlisted for the Thraca Award 2024 and published in 2025 (Thraca/ Botsotso). He lives in Cape Town.
